Blog Quiz

I came across this post called Write Of Passage (which has a broad cross section of comments) about my need to write and how blogging relates to that. It inspired me to write this quiz.

1. How long have you been involved in the Jewish blog world? (Feel free to accept or reject and discuss any terms in this question, such as "involved" or "Jewish blog world").

2. Has your participation changed in nature? (More often, less often, more interested or or less, more politically inclined, or personally, more outspoken, more quiet, etc.) (I expect answers of interest to flow from the category of etc.)

3. How do you see the Jewish blogosphere having changed since you first took notice of it (a lot more blogs or less, more sophisticated or less, more political, religious, personal, etc.)?

4. Do you have any connection with the general blogosphere or just the Jewish or just this one or a few of each (or other)?

5. Are you an internet person in general? Is blogging related to surfing the net or is it it's own thing? Explain.

6. What are your thoughts on the etiquette of blogging? If someone comments on your blog is it appropriate to comment back in your comment section and/or to say thank you there, to go look at that person's blog and see if there's something you might like to comment on there, to send a an email? What are some of the factors that come into play?

7. What are your thoughts on anonymity? Is it best for a blogger to use their own name? Is the blogosphere its own world, a world where given names don't fit? If a blogger takes a stand on an issue or exposes something journalistic is it then more appropriate/proper to use a name? What are some of the other factors that come into play here?

8. Do you have any general opinions about the phenomenon of blogging? Anything at all you wish to share on the matter?

Without getting into detail, my overall sense of Jewish blogging is that it has become primarily political and overall too combative. Of course, even making such a statement could be seen as combative. Sigh.

I miss some personal blogs like "A Whispering Soul" and even my own past blog, but I don't think the environment is gentle enough for people to have such personal statements online. Or maybe there are just more people out there reading blogs, so the chance that someone will be offended and become irate is that much higher. As the kids say, "idk".

Miriam - Much obliged for the comment. I miss your old blog and Whispering Soul. Although I never met either of you I feel like you each shared your souls with me personally in your blogs and I thank you.

Those posts still exist, but they are harder to come by.

There should be a blog that exclusively collects personal reflections from other blogs. Sof Davar will be its name.
