Haiku For Now

Can I live with what's
existing and occurring
in the present tense?

Am I even here
in this particular place
or far away home?

I am confused by
the time referred to as now
because of my past
because of my barnacles
because of the past that stays

"because of my barnacles"

I was reading along, enjoying your poetry.

Nice one," I thought. "Another nice one." (You're a fine poet, by the way)

Then I hit this line and came to a full stop.

"Yes," I thought. "The past can be just like this. Barnacles."

For a moment I felt the barnacles from my history stuck all over the ship of my spirit.

"I must do something about them," I thought. "There must be a way to scrape the spirit's hull clean so it can glide more easily."

Thanks for making me stop and think. Good work.

Alice, thank you so much for taking my writing in and for kindly responding so kindly. The barnacle thing is very real for mean. That's how what people call my memory feels to me- things just won't go away. I too have to learn how to do it and then clean off the ship... It means a lot to me that my words can be so meaningful to you- and I wouldn't know if you hadn't told me, so I am truly grateful.

Rajkumarmilan - thanks, glad you liked that one. It's describing something I struggle with...
