Life ain't all it's cracked up to be, huh, Neil?
Happy Birthday, ad meah v'esrim. Hope you have a special day and you're treated like royalty.

thank you rr.

thank you pearl.

good work. i love the royalty wish. i think being treated like royalty needs to start with how we treat ourselves. i need to get to that right away.

Thanks Sharon! Is there a source for that besides Leonard Cohen. I love that line.

It doesn't matter when you come out of your shell--it's the right time, the right day, and the right beginning. All great things in the Year of Neil!

This picture and challenge was posted on my birthday - early in the morning, the middle of the night. Here we are (I am), just short of another week and I'm having another Achashveirosh moment (Who?). Sigh.

Lately I've been shy on the blog. Hiding and writing, elsewhere. And yet as I just awoke I looked through the old blog and saw that the winner to this contest was never rewarded.

There's a speaker I enjoy listening to who begins every speech by saying that s/he is "deeply grateful" to - fill in the blank - for arranging the speech. Which reminds me of the colleague who called me over once during a quiet moment at the end of parent teacher meetings in the big open room they're held in (where every teacher has his or her own little cocktail table to be visited at). He said that he heard me telling parents that it was great to see them, and wondered if was really true every time. What I mean to say here now is that it is consistently meaningful to me when I receive comments on the blog. The responses to this post were particularly appreciated by me.

I'm having a hard time picking one winner because each comment had an original element that resonated for me. RR wins for alacrity and alliteration. TP wins for the clever pun and really hit my heart with the wish that I be treated like royalty (can I hope that comes true eveyday - for everyone? "kol yisrael bnei melachim") Anon SM wins for alluding to one of my favorite quotes and the very original wish for a "lite up birthday." Anon Anon wins for overall message and content. If I had to - and I suppose I do - pick one winner it is Anon Anon. Everone else is tied for runner up. Anon Anon is thus entitled to 2 free copies of my book. The other 3 entrants are entitled to one prize copy. This is redeemable even if you've already received a free copy from me. Yes, they do grow on trees. Please email me to claim your prize (nfleischmann1@gmal. com).

It's a brand new year! Praying that it is eggsceptionally good, sweet, and sunnyside up for all of Klal Yisrael- and that's no fluff!
I think we're too late for the contest (cluck, cluck tsk), but couldn't resist!
pitka tova and chag sameach from all of us at the lavender garden!
