On Seven Years Of Blogging (Part I)

The seventh anniversary of this blog, my blog, is about a month away. In a way it feels like yesterday. On the other hand I feel every one of the seven years, even in my fingertips. As my fingers type I think back to when I resisted not considering myself the blogger type. The idea was first suggested to me by blog reading dear friend Moshe Radinsky. And then - like a dater that needs to give credit to a second, less direct source after "an idea" has been straightforwardly suggested by one person - I decided to start one when I read an article I liked by blogger Esther Kustanowitz.

Does this make you one of the rishonim? I think that it might or at least it puts you in a place that very few hold.

How many of us from the old days are still doing this, still writing, reading and thinking out loud.

I think it is fantastic. Keep going.

I second what Jack said. Better one of the "rishonim" than considered one of the "vatikim". (I haven't had a reason to use that word in YEARS)

Wow, feelin' like old times. Hi fellow bloggers from way back when. Remember when we'd buy a handful of jelly beans for a penny and hitch a free ride on the back of trolley cars? No? How about when facebook was a bizarre word that had we heard we'd have said, facebook? i think not. which sounds apt, actually. we all go back don't we? i'm thrilled to be a rishon or a vatik in the jewish blogosphere. so glad you guys found this post and commented on it with your good, kind wishes. don't be strangers now...

Haven't forgotten you -- or your blog, either -- Neil. I just don't come over to this side too often, as you can tell, preferring the quickness of FB.
But I know when I first linked to your blog: it was after Sukkos 1984for sure. I'd discovered Robert Avrech's blog Seraphic Secret in October 1984 and saw your name on his sidebar blogroll. "NY's Funniest Rabbi" caught my eye and attention, and shortly after I began to read your words...finding a kindred soul in many ways.
I know your words have left great impressions, your links have introduced us to many new "things" (for lack of a better word), and your gift of writing has helped you too in these past seven years.
Waiting to read Part 2 of this post!
