My Uncle From Oz

Today's google logo, what they call their doodle, pays tribute to The Wizard of Oz. It's an easy free association for me, that movie leads right to Uncle Sig. The third photo above was obtained from the website of Jeffrey Pidgeon. Jeffrey, I believe, correctly identifies and describes my great uncle. If you click here you'll find many google results for Sig Frohlich as the head flying monkey. (In the family the word was that he was the head flying monkey, though not given that title in these articles it seems like a reasonable description of his role given that he was the one to grab Toto from Dorothy and later to hand him to the witch.) Soon after Frohlich's passing, Stephen Miller wrote a rich obituary for the New York Sun, which now seems to only be available in one place (the posting of that piece received one lovely comment and I'm surprised and disappointed that the comment didn't receive a response from the blog proprietor). Though we never met face to face we were each other's fans and I appreciated his support. He is missed. I hope he is flying, happy, with the bluebirds.
