Also Known As The Hebrew Academy of North Queens (The Other HANQ) (click photo to enlarge)
I've written before, and if G-d gives me strength, I'll write again about Phil Chernofsky, the best teacher I ever had. I visited my parents this weekend and went through some old stuff. I wondered where this pencil had gone. It was there all along. Still sharp. Mr. C. made one for each of us. It reads MRHHA (Max and Rose Heller Hebrew Academy), Kitah Vav (Grade Six) 5734 (1974)

I graduated HANQ in 1965 in a class of just to 5. Judith Sklar
Judith Sklar! Fancy running across you here! What better confirmation that I've found the right HANQ.
Dear Rabbi, could you help me out and tell me where the school was located? I attended from grades 1-3 in the late 50s and I was too young to have a grasp of Queens geography. I was at the central library in Jamauca today looking at microfilm of old phone books hoping to find the address, but to my surprise, there was no listing for it under Hebrew Academy.
Thanks!
Are you THE Rabbi Fleischman who teaches at Frisch? All my kids attended Frisch. Nina, Avi & Daniel.
i attended HANQ from 1960-65, before my family moved to Long Island. I came across a Facebook page for HANQ. Would be great to connect with more from HANQ, especially would like to find the family of the principal, Rabbi Charner.

I just discovered these comments - technical issues with getting comment alerts.
When I went there it was in the Bayside Jewish Center, but first and second grade were in the Young Israel of Windsor Park.
I am the Rabbi Fleischmann of Frisch and remember your children and you warmly.
Rabbi Charner was a special man. The way I got here tonight was because I was Googling him and found the NY Times obituary. I was thinking of him because in learning Avot today I quoted his idea that the world standing on Torah Avodah and Gemilut Chasadim can be understood broadly/univrsally - that society stands on education, work, and commuity.
Hi Rabbi Fleischman. I'll send Nina, Avi & Daniel your regards. I attended HANQ from 1960-64, then we moved to Woodmere NY. All the best.
Thanks, Willie. Hope all is as well as can be with you and yours.
I get mostly spam comments so I have have to block them, and then I have issues finding and seeing the rare real comment.
I think R Charners offspring are findable, if you'd like I think I can - without much difficulty - get you contact info for them.
