To Be Quiet in Heart and In Eye Clear
Geese appear high over us,
pass, and the sky closes. Abandon,
as in love or sleep, holds
them to their way, clear,
in the ancient faith: what we need
is here. And we pray, not
for new earth or heaven, but to be
quiet in heart, and in eye
clear. What we need is here.
From The Wild Geese, By Wendell Berry

Oy, if he could only see those geese today. Camped out on suburban lawns like smelly, agressive hoboes, no flying south for these guys! Ancient faith indeed. What the geese finally figured out is that what they need actually is right here.
This is beautiful and I adore Wendell Berry's poetry.
The big flock of brant geese that overwinters in our cove is back; they are daintier than the big Canada geese. I welcome their return.
We have the Canadas here, lots of them, ugly, annoying and smelly. They overwinter and oversummer.
