Take A Tablet

I love strong voiced, first person writing. One can learn much from listening to another person. Here are two essays written from perspectives that are not mine. I found each one strong and insightful. First is this piece by Jordana Horn about reentering the dating world as a divorcee. One line in there made me laugh out loud. Then there's this one (thanks Pearl) by Esther Schor about having a child grow up - sort of - and board at school for the first time. Read 'em and weep, and learn, and grow.

Esther Schor's essay resonated for me. I have barely gotten over my daughter's leaving for college *last* year and am already dreading my youngest, my son, doing the same next year. It astounds me how the dynamic reverses so sneakily: for years your children depend on you both physically and emotionally. Then they leave and you realize how deeply you depends on them, emotionally anyway.

Well put, fascinating, very honest, response, Anne. Thanks.

Thanks Eric. I found a bunch of lines funny. i believe that the line that made me laugh was, "As one of four siblings, as well as a sheepish fan of both the Jackson Five and The Sound of Music, I see the merits of a big family. It can be an invaluable support system. It can even help you cross the Alps to get away from Nazis."
