Metzora

Rashi tells us that when the Jews had Tzora'at on the walls of their home they had to tear down the walls. Inside the walls were hidden gold treasures. What's the meaning of this? Perhaps the idea is that to get to the gold in life you may have to break through messy walls.

The idea is that every cloud has a silver (or gold) lining.

kinda. that you have to break into the cloud and fly through it and then, with G-d's help, you come out with treasures.

Nothing to do with this post, but I wanted to share this Don McLean song. You're guaranteed to love it. I did, anyway. (Ignore the video, which is kinda dumb.)

Yes! Good to hear this. I've been familiar with it for some time, it's from the classic American Pie album. You can listen to samples from the whole album here:

The reviewer on amazon also does it good job of describing the way that song outshadowed the rest of the album, the singer, the career... It's a great album.

In H.S. I once wrote a chunk of Vincent of a desk and felt badly when my favorite Rebbe saw it and asked someone to erase it... ("So on that starry starry night..."). (It was around the same time that I wrote the following - and maybe this is actually the one that the Rebbe asked someone to erase: "Love is higher than 10 tefachim, love is thicker than mayim." It was my take on the lyric - love is higher than a mountain, love is thicker than water.) But i digress...

Don't feel too badly; I wrote on many a desk in HS. I look at my Gemara notes from then, every inch of the margin is doodled on. I rarely listened in shiur.

I've always liked that Andy Gibb song, especially the verses; they're so sad and sweet. Isn't it weird how after their moment of glory, the BeeGees just vanished from public consciousness?

Oh, and American Pie is a lovely song, as everyone knows.
