I Write Short Poems

MONOSTICH WRITING CONTEST
Enter to Win a Free Workshop - Deadline is Tomorrow
Writers rejoice!
Here's your chance to win a free 10-week writing workshop.
Enter our Monostich Writing Contest.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term,
Wikipedia provides the following definition:
A monostich is a poem which consists of a single line.
The following is an example:
'Skunks,' the squirrel said, 'are sent to try us.' - Ralph Hodgson
A monostich could be also titled; due to the brevity of the form,
the title is invariably as important a part of the poem as the verse itself:
COWARD
Bravery runs in my family. - A. R. Ammons
You can learn more about the history and characteristics
of the monostich in an online article by William J. Higginson
"Now we invite you to write your own monostich
and enter it in our One-line Poem Writing Contest.
Enter the competition here. Entry is free. Deadline is tomorrow, July 8, 2008.
The above is from Gotham Writers Workshop. Over the years I took two classes with them, one was amazing, another so-so. I also took a one day class which was really good.
I'm going to free associate here. I'd love to win this. Here are some ideas:
Another Gotham email prompts sighing and writing
SIGH
Fleischmann sees life ahead of him and sighs.
Majid Majidi and his Willow Tree do not disappoint.
Everyone, Someone, Anyone and No-one: which one are you?
Time and again I watch time go by.
No hello no thanks no encouragement just angst
Eternal G-d above love just must suffice
I know what I have, it is imperfect and good
Life
Like a postcard we write big, then run out of space
Where do you find time? Seems the time finds me
TIME FLIES EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT HAVING FUN
WHY IS 32 SIMPLY 32 BUT 42 IS "IN YOUR FORTIES?"
NOW IS THE NEW LATER
SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO?: SOME SONGS HIT THE TRUTH
Im running - these are some ideas, reworked from my archives. Theres more.
Have a great day all. G-d Bless.

These four hit me as really strong:

Everyone, Someone, Anyone and Noone: which one are you?

Time and again I watch time go by.

Now is the new later.

And my personal favorite:

Life
like a postcard we write big, then run out of space.

Hope you win!

BTW, I came across the work of an interesting publisher today. They do nice poetry books and some out of the ordinary type books: Harry N. Abrams, Inc.

This started as a one-liner, but works better as a haiku (I think):

Break all the mirrors
And you'll never grow older
Just everyone else

My daily monostitch:

The truth of things a deep study open heart surgery no anasthesia.

My twice-daily monostich:

Honor at stake she asked for a pen by god ink would flow before she said enough.

And another, to be applied to the previous:

Don't ask me what it means but I like it.
