When the google icon looks different it has something to do with the nature of the day. And if you click on it you get all the links as to what the day is. Here's what you'll see if you google today:
They have a virtual museum at google of years worth of these images. Here's one from April 22, a few years back.

Also, I fear getting lost in the myriad comments, so I'll say here that I was touched by your thorough, thoughtful, moving recent post about who and why you are who you are.
My friend, Gidon, tells me you will tell me how to say, "Happy Birthday!" in Hebrew. I thought he was kidding! This is SOOO cool!
