Rainy Days And Lyrics

I don't know any song accurately, fully by heart.

These quotes came to mind on this stormy day while listening to tunes on the radio and raindrops on the air conditioner. They may be a word or too off. And there may be what to learn from why these, why now. But they came to me fast, and I'm posting them fast at face value.

Feel free to name that lyric. Free associative comments of your own are welcome. Please don't post answers that were googled. At least not yet. At least not many.

1 -in the blink of a young girl's eye
2-come on baby don't say maybe
3-did it take long to find me? i ask the faithful light
4-half of what i say is meaningless but i say it just to reach you
5-snot running down his nose
6-i've seen lonely days that i thought would never end
7-we had a drink, we had a smoke, she took off her overcoat
8-does any human being ever find that kind of light?
9-there is no place i'm going to
10-same old cliche's - is that a woman or a man
11-they put a parking lot on the piece of land where the bowling alley used to stand
12-took all the trees put 'em in a tree museum
13-the painted ponies go up and down
14-i found a diary underneath a tree and started reading about me
15-if you smile at me i will understand for that is something everyone everywhere does in the same language
16-we tease him a lot 'cause we've got him on the spot
17-last night we said goodbye now it seems years
18-now everything is easy 'cause of you
19-met my lover in the grocery store
20-she seemed so glad to see me i just smiled
21-this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you
22-meet the new boss, the same as the old boss
23-in every heart there is a room, a sanctuary safe and strong
24-she forgot all about the library like she told her old man
25- do you ever get the feeling that the story's too damn real and in the present tense?

PS- What lyric does the title of this post allude to?

I recognize some immediately, and others make me sing right away, yet I can't think of the song titles or artists.

James Taylor is right, but the title is wrong. Same for Jonie Mtchel. The others were all right. Thanks for chiming in. I venture to say that most of these rang a bell for you.

By the way - I know that you have a blog roll and mention others from time to time. Just now I was trying to be a good member of the blog community and surfed around. I miss the old days of Mirty and McAryeh. I enjoy yours and many others but nothing grabbed me the way those two used to. Any recommendations? Even QC hasn't been compelling to me very recently, I'm still impressed by her talent but the honeymoon is over. I'm a tough critic.

Two of your lyrics struck me (though I'm sure I know a lot more of the songs than that).

The first one is #8 - Galileo by the Indigo Girls. That song always reminds me of camp, where a whole group of us got up on talent night and sang together.

The other one was #13 - The Circle Game by Joni Mitchell. I admit that I had to Google it to tease the actual name of the song into my mind, but it's a haunting, beautiful melody, it always touched me.

16.I am not good at song titles and artists, but I am sure that this one is sung by the sweathogs to Mr. Kotter. It's from the theme song of welcome back.

17.I believe that this is Barry Manilow...when will I see you?

17. oops, i still think that it's Barry Manilow, but not sure, but I think that the title is When Will I Hold You Again? - not When Will I See You? It starts with Last Night We Said Good-Bye...

Maayan - 12 (by J.M.) nd 15 are right.
20- is Paul Simon what what song about long term mental instability is it? and 21 is the song Vincent, but what singer sang it "a long long time ago"?

MSB - 16 is right, sung by the lead singer of a famous group of the hippie era, and 17- you may be right (i may be crazy) (name THAT), it may be hold and not see and my linbe was the opening line.

Nice work Miriam. All Correct (Is it true that OK started as abbreviation for All Correct?) The Seger song is called Turn The Page. I once tried to request it on the radio under the name On The Road to no avail and that's what prompted me to look up and learn its proper name.

Yes! In the summer of 76 when that song was a hit the frum kids my age from my neighborhood went to Camp Tagola. Our Shul youth leader, Mark Sherman, came up to visit and gave us each the 45 of that song, loking forward to our coming back at summer's end.
