An Interview With Yoni Fleischmann - 12 Years Old

What's your favorite subject in school?
Science.
Why?
Because the teacher just does a lot of cool projects.
What's your favorite food?
Cheese. Any cheese.
What's your favorite TV show?
Don't have one.
Do you like Jimmy Neutron? (On during interview)
What's the highest you've scored in bowling?
I don't know. Like a hundred forty something.
Do you like my blog?
Yes.
Do you like my jokes?
Yes.
Are you just trying to make me feel good?
Yes. Just joking. No.
Tell me a joke you like.
Woman goes to a Rabbi: Bill and Sam want to marry me. Who should marry me? Who will be the lucky one?
Rabbi: Bill will marry you. Sam will be the lucky one! (Received from a relative on the internet. Not from Uncle Neil)
Another joke?
A woman keeps asking the dispatcher if she can go higher. She keeps going higher. Until the helicopter suddenly falls to the ground, but the woman was fine. Why did it fall?
I give up.
She got hot, so she turned off the fan. Do you get it?
Yes. Thank you for this interview.
You're welcome.

I have a hard time with this (and about a prvious blog about your students reading your blog).

We all know that once a blog is on the web, it's out there for all the world to see and I give you credit for your candor, honesty, sincerity.... these are the things that keep me coming back to read more and more. But I suspect that the interviewee is your nephew. Could you comment on how you feel about him (he is both 12 years old and your nephew) and your students reading your blog regularly? I admit that I am not a blogger - only a consumer of blogs - so maybe I don't know how it feels for people close to me reading some of the things I would write. Still, I am interested in your thoughts.

I don't believe that many if any students come to the blog regularly. My nephew has never visited the blog. It was a spontaneous idea to interview him and post it while I was visiting. My students and my nephew appreciate attention. They're not so interested in reading my thoughts. That makes sense. Yhe way it is and probably should be.

I misunderstood. From this and other posts, I thought you encouraged it to the students. I might add (against my last comment) that if a certain student did read your blog regularly, s/he is probably the kind of student about whom you wouldn't care if they read your blog. In other words, as you hinted, most teenagers don't care about anyone's thoughts (even their own!). So, if there were a student who did care about someone else's thoughts, feelings, emotions, experiences, etc., then that is exactly the kind of teenager who is mature enough to read it!

Thanks Shloime and Mirty. I don't think I'll be putting the joke in my routine, M. Sh - glad you get it.
