I just heard Giant Step as Redone by Taj Mahal and remembered how much I liked this song as I knew it by the Monkees:

Words and Music by Gerry Goffin and Carole King

Though you've played at love and lost
And sorrow's turned your heart to frost
I will melt your heart again.

Remember the feeling as a child
When you woke up and morning smiled
It's time you felt like you did then.

There's just no percentage in remembering the past
It's time you learned to live again at last.
Come with me, leave yesterday behind

And take a giant step outside your mind.

You stare at me in disbelief
You say for you there's no relief
But I swear I'll prove you wrong.

Don't stay in your lonely room
Just staring back in silent gloom.
That's not where you belong
Come with me I'll take you where the taste of life is green
And everyday holds wonders to be seen.

Come with me, leave yesterday behind
And take a giant step outside your mind.

PS - Songwriting partners Gerry Goffin and Carole King composed a string of classic hits and cherished album tracks for a variety of artists during the Sixties. A brief sampling: "Up On the Roof" (the Drifters), "One Fine Day" (the Chiffons), "I'm Into Something Good" (Herman's Hermits), "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" (the Shirelles), "Take Good Care of My Baby" (Bobby Vee), "Chains" (the Cookies), "Don't Bring Me Down" (the Animals), "Take a Giant Step" (the Monkees) and "Goin' Back" (the Byrds). The prolific duo, who remained married for much of the Sixties, even tapped their babysitter to sing one of the songs they'd written, and the result was a Number One hit and a new dance craze: "The Loco-Motion," by Little Eva. Thanks, Neil! I'll make sure to listen to both versions of the song on Rhapsody. It's not every day you hear citations of Monkees songs. (My favorite is "Shades of Gray," especially when followed by Billy Joel's "Shades of Grey.")

Uri, if you happen to check back here... I posted Shades of Gray on July 30th and replied to another interesting comment.
