Sukkah As Sanctuary

Of all that the Sukkah and Sukkot represents there is one theme that is not oft spoken about.  Maybe because it's hard to jive it with our times.  I'm talking about the Bet HaMikdash.

"Harachaman hu yakim lanu et sukkat david hanofalet." We say this every time we bentch on Sukkos.  It's a prayer for the reestablishment of The Temple, referred to here as the fallen sukkah of David.

In a poem/piyut recited by many today we also refer to the fallen sukkah of David as part of a general prayer for the rebuilding of the Bet HaMikdash. (Ivuy Sukkat Dovid - Artscroll Machzor, page 272)
