Sababa

Had dinner in Teaneck tonight (is it more correct to write -"had dinner tonight in Teaneck?"). The food was hearty and so was the service (which included free dating advice.)

This art piece is on display in the restaurant.

I returned home to find an email from someone asking me to send info about me and comedy. Here's an article I sent him.

I ran a program in school today, which featured the film Ushpizin and a discussion. I'm working on a post-op about the movie and the assembly. In class today I suddenly began teaching in rhythmic song. It happens. The freshmen sat bug eyed and applauded when I finished.
,
At the assembly the projector wasn't starting (has there ever been an assembly when the projector worked right away?) so kids started chanting for me to do stand up. I stood on the stage and started improvising about the screen. (Projecting in 'preview man' voice: "In the early days the film experience consisted of staring at a blank screen for two hours. Later, images and sound were added...")
.
A colleague gave a slide show presentation about culture during the time of Avraham. One point I found of interest was that the main worship at that time centered around the moon and that one indication of this is that people's names were moon related. Thus you find names like Terach (similar to Yareach) and Lavan (similar to Levanah).Teaching is much like juggling, which is much like life, all of which I like.
.
It's been about a week since I posted a haiku. I must confess that the demands for more haikus have not been pouring into my email box. But the urge to share my poetry does fll my heart.
.
A haiku reaction to the line - A Song For David, G-d is my light and my salvation, from whom shall I fear?

Light and salvation
what a description of G-d!

Crawling along Route 4, this came to mind:
,
Traffic all around
inside out and upside down
on and off the road
.
Wrote this next one after an administrator made a surprise visit to my classroom and later bumped into me and said, "Nice class."

Words from the outside
something inside them matters
something about words

  1. Thanks for the Haikus. I for one have been missing them! It's great how you can juggle your teaching styles and modes. I guess that you are not only an eclectic Rabbi, but the eclectic teacher as well!

The content of this Haiku is so true! No matter how great a job you are doing there is NOTHING like an outside party acknowledging or complimenting you! Unfortunately the reverse is true too. You could be feeling great about something that you have done and one sour comment can ruin it all. Glad that you experienced the former! You must have felt like saying SABABA!

  2. Now that you've mastered adding pictures to your posts, you should figure out how to do audio and/or video posts also so we can actually hear your musical classes and impromptu stand-up routines! (I have no idea how to do something like that, but Jack seems to.)
